Suman Sangam: Living in Harmony with the Land
Suman Sangam began with a desire to live differently—more attentively, more responsibly, and more in harmony with the land. It is a song Mother Earth started humming for us in January 1996, when we purchased 17 acres of barren land, 10 km from Dharwad in Karnataka, India. We named it Suman Sangam, meaning Confluence of Flowers and also Confluence of Good Minds — which is exactly what we envision our forest farm becoming over time.
By forest farm, we mean a place that was once a vast grazing land and has now transformed into a green patch of forest with an ever-increasing diversity of flora and natural fauna. We never had a blueprint for Suman Sangam—in fact, we still don’t. It has been blossoming on its own in many different ways, often rewarding us with pleasant surprises.
From Interest to Intention: A Journey into Natural Farming
What started as an interest in organic farming gradually evolved into a deeper commitment to natural farming and permaculture. Over time, the land itself became our teacher, showing us that sustainability is not about control or extraction, but about patience, observation, and care.
Today, Suman Sangam Is Shaped as Much by the Forest as by Those Who Walk Its Paths
With every passing season, Mother Earth adds a new verse to the song of Suman Sangam. Come, pause for a while, and listen—what you’ll hear is a melody that feels heavenly, yet is deeply, beautifully earthly.
